Hi all!
I always have a surprised look when someone tells me they have not seen Lord of the Rings as I remember when it first came out and attending the midnight showings.
For those who don't know what that is, it was when a big movie was coming out on Friday, they would hold midnight showings and people would dress up and be in line for hours. It was such an amazing experience.
The Fellowship of the Ring is such a classic and a great start to a phenomenal trilogy, that if you have not seen it yet, I highly recommend you watch them. Of course, that all depends if you are interested or not.
I wanted to take this time to provide a quote from the trilogy's first film that has coincided with much of my life and brought the truth I never thought I would have.
A Bit of Back Story, and Just in Case, Spoiler Alert.
A dark lord named Sauron created one ring to rule the whole world. Men and Elves joined forces to battle him once and for all. Isildur (prince of men) cut Sauron's hand off, which defeated the dark lord...for the moment. Instead of destroying the ring, Isildur kept it and caused the possibility of Sauron returning.
He ended up dying and the ring was lost, only to be found by Smeagol. The ring cursed him and he turned into "Gollum" and he hid in a high mountain.
Years passed and an adventure was embarked which led the ring to fall into Bilbo's hands.
Many years pass by and now Sauron is back and looking for the ring. Bilbo leaves the ring to Frodo and a new adventure is embarked on.
Setting the Scene
Frodo and now Sam head to Rivendale the city of Elves to discuss what will be done about the ring. Many things happen on their way there causing Frodo to get injured.
In Rivendale, Men, Elves, Dwarfs, and Gandalf (wizard) sit to discuss the fate of the ring. After much dispute, Frodo decides to take the ring to the fires of Mount Doom (volcano) to destroy it. Alongside him, he is accompanied by 2 men, 1 dwarf, 1 elf, and 3 other hobbits.
Their journey starts with hardship, leading them to end in a cave where they are lost and not knowing which path to take.
Life Changing Quote
As they sat there trying to decide which path to take, Frodo goes to Gandalf to discuss the fate of "Gollum" and the bad fortune of the ring falling into Bilbo's hands.
Frodo exclaims, “I wish it not have happened in my time." Gandalf responds, "So do I, and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”
That quote changed my perspective on life.
Why is it My Favorite?
I have throughout my life always asked myself why was this happening to me and how I wish it wasn't happening.
I bet you have asked yourself that same question as well.
We can't control when things happen to us. Yes, we can make sure to be wise in our decisions, so that we don't have things happening to us that we can control, but we can't control everything or everyone.
I was with a company for 6 and a half years before they let me go. I had no control over it, and I asked myself why did it happen to me?
The quote came into my head "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
So instead of waiting and feeling bad about myself. I got up and started searching for a job. After a month of interviews, I found the place that better suits me and my family.
My Advice
What should you take out of this?
When life hits you hard and you start asking yourself why is this happening to me? and I wish that I was not going through this.
Just remember, We all feel the same way. But what we must decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.
